Keynote address by Effie Fokas at 35th Biennial ISSR Conference

9-12 July 2019

35th Biennial ISSR Conference, Barcelona

The 35th Biennial Conference of the International Society for the Sociology of Religion (ISSR) on ‘The Politics of Religion and Spirituality’ took place from 9-12 July 2019 in Barcelona. On 10 July Effie Fokas delivered a keynote address during the plenary session, on ‘Rights not working? Grassroots level impact of the European Court of Human Rights on religion’. The presentation examined a main conclusion in the Grassrootsmobilise research project, regarding the relatively little awareness and uses of European Court of Human Rights religion-related case law at the grassroots level and exploring the reasons for and ‘consequences’ of the latter.
